The End.

I never thought the day would come, and it feels a little strange typing all this out, but I'm afraid the time has come to hang up the wand (or staves), and move on.

Yes, I'm quitting FFXI.

Nothing against the game or anyone, really- I've been rather fortunate in avoiding all the drama that comprises the endgame, just that, well, thoughts of leaving have been with me for a very long time, but now recent developments in my real life demand my attention. In short, it's time to move on.

Strange, isn't it? To leave behind a game, much less a video game that you've been involved in over the past two years (and four months). I can't say that I regret playing, after all, I got to meet many people, made a whole bunch of friends (although I'd really like to meet people irl ; ;) and went on to creating a player resource in Campsitarus as a means of "giving back" to the community.

This blog in particular, has chronicled Tuufless' progress from the time I was a lowly WHM55 on my first job, fighting my first Prime Avatar fight all the way to now. Within the some 190,000 words that make up this blog are my experiences and trials, information that I hoped would help others facing the same situations, information that I wanted to see used. I'm generally satisfied by the responses I've gathered so far, although I suppose at some point it might be a good idea to quickly go back and index all the useful posts, although it would probably be too rushed to actually be a half-decent guide.

The following picture summarizes my thoughts and feelings quite nicely. It's a little cheesy, I'll admit, but it gets the message across.

(Full-sized image can be found here)

To all my friends who I have met in game, Thank You. There are far too many of you to list out, so forgive me for not mentioning names, but you know who you are when I say that.

A group photo with everybody would be nice, but ultimately quite a pain to organise, not to mention that half the people you want to show up, don't, but to just abruptly leave without warning, giving people no chance to say their own farewells isn't particularly fair, so...^^

I will make it a point to log in again Friday night around 11PM EST (Saturday, 12 noon JST.) It'd be nice to see a bunch of people one last time, at, say, Windurst (where else?). Five days is ample warning, isn't it? ^^

P.S: Several people have asked me about Campsitarus, so here's what's going on.

This blog, Shiny Things, and Campsitarus will remain up, since Blogger is (thankfully) a free host for this sort of stuff. ^^ However, Campsitarus will undergo some changes. I don't know how many of you noticed, but Campsitarus will be merging with the Vana'diel Atlas to create a new resource on the internet. At least, that's the plan. >_<

Shame to see another good player go.

Your blog was one of the ones that inspired me to write my own, though, admittedly, mine is often VERY long winded, and I spam it up with screenshots XD

Maybe someday you'll have an urge to come back and play, maybe not.

Either way, I've enjoyed reading your blog, Tuuf, and I wish you all the best in RL.

Awww, my little TuufTuuf. I haven't been able to play with ya lately because I haven't really been on FFXI much this year, but we had lots of fun doing TrueRune/Honor stuff with Aka and SaoSao. :)

And thanks for all the help on my Japanese homework! You're a great buddy.

Noooooooooo! You have broken the first rule of quiting! never, ever tell people you are quiting.

If you do, you will return!

hehe, cya soon enough man.

I'm with Will on this one. Celius's first rule of quitting states that if you tell even a single soul about it... you will return.

See you soon, Tuuf. :o

Keep in touch, and enjoy the added time IRL. If (when) you poke your head back in, you have a welcome place in FFXI.

Take it easy Tuuf, as a long-time lurker of your blog, sad to see you go (but 3 cheers for more RL time... sometimes this game consumes me too much if I'm not careful), but thanks for all the great stories and tips (all of Campsitarus!) you shared over the years. ^^ I just recently went in to the Bugbear ENM with your strategy in mind and won.

... I'ma miss Tuuf. It always seemed everytime I got off the bastok airship Tuuf was always in front of me scurring to the GC Guild.

One last /poke before you go. (you'll be back, they all come back)

I don't think I'm exagerating when I say you are one of the seminal FFXI bloggers, Tuuf. Many started journaling their experiences because of this site.

You described things about the game that inspired me to stay the course, and I haven't regretted it.

Judging from the quality of your posts, their humor and elocution, and just your overall style of play... I'd say that whatever RL circle is about to claim your time is extremely well served.

I salute you and wish you all the best.

Been away last couple days due to renovations at home Tuufie, didn't even know you were leaving till I logged on Sat.

In any case, fare thee well, old time LS mate, been a great ride, maybe we'll have a japanese buffet outing sometime. Take care and all the best!

Well Tuuf, it's been a good run for you. I hope you are proud of what you've acomplished here in FFXi. I will never forget our 7 man Genbu where all we had for DDs were a THF and 2 BLMs :) That was a hoot. I hope you come back to visit every now and then, and thank you for your support, I will allways have that earring you gave me to remeber you by.

Tuufless...i'm sad to see you go! You don't know me at all, we're not even on the same sever (i'm on Asura) but i feel like i know you so well! In the 2 something years i've been playing this game as well, i've been reading your entries on your Van'adel experience and feel like i go through some of those same exact experiences! i remeber soing a search on a search engine here at work and your old blog popping up (one of the few sites that my work's firewall would allow)! you're a great writter, and you bring real like and vigor to your stories! my gaming days are bleh to me these days with 3 75 jobs, and 2 more in the 60's, there's not much to do but chat and help random noobs with things! i've quit like 2-3 times, so i'm sure you might come back when the FFXI-withdrawl comes knocking! Take care!
